Review : Seat Mii ( 2011 - 2020 )

First we talked about the VW Up!, which was a real commercial success. Then came the Skoda CitiGO, which was a non-commercial success. And now it's the turn of the Seat Mii, which was not really a success. Let's see why.

Seat Mii? As the great Bruce Lee said - "I'm not afraid of the car manufacturer that launches 10,000 cars at once. I'm afraid of the manufacturer that launches the same car 10,000 times". It's just that Seat Mii somehow came in the luggage with Skoda CitiGO and VW Up!, because that's the tradition. Octavia with Leon and Golf, the Fabia with the Polo and the Ibiza, Tiguan and Ateca and Kodiaq, Touareg and nothing and nothing, Amarok and nothing and nothing. And Seat Mii - Skoda CitiGO - VW Up!, only there is no difference between them except the badge, because they were assembled in the same place, by the same people. And yet there are some differences.

What are the major differences?

A lot of cars for sale are two-doors, basically an updated Arosa. In fact, that was kind of the idea of the triplet, to come and replace the old Lupo / Arosa and the old Fox. And because the Mii was mainly restricted to Spain, people took it as the successor to the Arosa and that's why you find a lot of two-doors. And not just two-doors, but a lot of them are aesthetically modified to the ricer level. Which is good, because it was a privately owned car and it didn't necessarily make late-night food deliveries to some drunk students, but the downside is that if the car had a ricer treatment, it was probably driven by some young people with no money but with a lot of enthusiasm.

And the minor differences?

  • It was pretty much limited to the European market, especially in the west and very far to the west, close to the beach, so it was the least sold of the 3.

  • It didn't get a facelift and didn't get a special fascia for the electric version, unlike the VW Up! which also got a facelift and a special grille for the electric version, and the Skoda CitiGO which also got a facelift. And the Seat Mii? Nada.

  • It didn't get the 1.0 TSI engine nor any GTi equipment, because otherwise no one would buy the Up! and they needed a reason to sell it.

  • The first car in its class, along with Up! and CitiGO, to come with automated emergency braking in the city.

Seat Mii Engines

Engines

  • 1.0 MPI EA211 CHYA and CHYB of 60 and 75 horsepower - For a city car like the Mii, you don't need more and you can also live with the low power version. Just pay attention to the oil consumption because it's an EA211, but at least it is compensated by the decent fuel economy. Ah yes, and avoid hills because you have nothing to tackle the hill with.

  • 1.0 MPI EA211 CPGA 67 horsepower - Yes, there was also a CNG version, but I don't necessarily recommend it because it also eats from your bootpsace, you have nowhere to refuel and you don't have many places where you can service the CNG installation.

Electric

1 electric engine of 80 horsepower - I made this joke in the CitiGO review and I'll say it again. The Seat Mii EV is like a well-paid job. You've heard of it, but you've never seen one.

Seat Mii Reliability Issues

  • It's the budget version of a budget car, no matter how Spanish it may appear. That means exposed paint, exposed sheet metal. And the boot is as deep as your pockets when you were patient enough to buy a Seat Mii, except it doesn't have a tray because if you wanted a tray, you'd get a VW Up!. Or you can just straight up buy a tray.

  • And since we're talking about the boot, you'll be absolutely shocked to learn that the boot space is as generous as the budget for this online septic tank.

  • There's also an automatic transmission that's actually an automated manual, but I'll call it ASG because that's what the brochure says. And it's better to keep it in the brochure, because you don't want it. Also, the manual transmission's shifter creaks the same way you creak when you get out of bed. You're one step away from having to go to the bathroom every morning at 6, only that you wake up at 8.

Seat Mii Verdict

The Seat Mii was supposed to be the third wheel of the wagon but it somehow went its own way and carried on the Arosa torch with dignity. And because I have to distinguish it from two other cars that are effectively identical, I would say that the only real reason to buy a Mii is because there are more with two doors instead of four. Don't get too excited tho, as there are currently 3 Miis on sale instead of 7 Skoda CitiGOs. But if you don't need the rear doors and you found one at a decent price, then the Seat Mii is worth a look. But you are unlikely to find it.

Which engines do I recommend? You have one engine to choose from really, 60 or 75 horsepower, and both are sufficient for your needs. Just don't do your business at 6 in the morning, when you wake up at 8.
